Circulatory system

The okapi possesses a closed circulatory system, meaning the blood is closed at all times within vessels of the heart, where the blood is pumped.  The lungs and circulatory systems are independent, and right and left ventricles of the heart are completely seperated.  The left atrium

of the heart is where oxygenated blood enters, where

it then passes through the left ventricle.  From there it

travels through the aorta and into the bloodstream.

Deoxygenated blood, however, flows to the right atrium.

Although the animation to the right is of a giraffe,

it accurately depicts the inner workings of an okapi

circulatory system as well.
