Reproductive system
Female okapis have their estrous cycles every 15 days or so. An estrous cycle is described as the reproductive cycle that includes estrus, ovulation, and changes in the uterine lining. Okapis reproduce sexually, and begin mating at around two years of age. A pregnancy lasts around 440 days, or one and a half years. Although okapis become sexually mature around two years, they aren't fully developed until they reach three years old.
Not much else is known about the reproductive habits or system of the okapi since captive breeding has been a rare and sometimes unsuccessful occurance.
